Let me tell you guys a story about the time I stopped buying expensive lipstick…
Last year, after a particularly hard week during graduate school, I treated myself to a Chanel lipstick. It was one of the best nude shades I had ever seen, and I was ridiculously excited about it because I’m obsessed with lipstick/lipgloss. I had the chance to use it once, and the very next day I lost it. Of course I had never misplaced a lipstick until the moment I bought an expensive one. Figures, right?! Anyway, I never found it and I’m not sure who was more heartbroken… me or my wallet.
Okay, so that wasn’t exactly the LAST time I bought a slightly-expensive beauty product. I enjoy splurging a little on neutral shades because I wear them daily. But after that moment I realized that I needed to find an alternative for shades that I wear less often. I found that one of the best brands for inexpensive dupes is Revlon. For every popular shade of lipstick that I’ve noticed floating around the blogosphere, Revlon has a dupe. Plus, you can’t really beat their quality to price ratio, it’s pretty amazing!
Tom Ford ‘Pink Tease’ vs. Revlon ‘Pink Pout’ ⁄ NARS ‘Schiap’ vs. Revlon ‘Sultry Samba’ ⁄ YSL ‘Corial In Touch’ vs. Revlon ‘Kiss Me Coral’ ⁄ MAC ‘Ruby Woo’ vs. Revlon ‘Really Red’ ⁄ NARS ‘Audacious’ vs. Revlon ‘Black Cherry’
I’ve listed a few popular fall shades (some of them on a online waiting list!) – nude, bright pink, true red, deep orange, and burgundy – and their identical Revlon dupes. One of my absolute favorites is ‘Pink Pout’. It has a matte finish and is a darker shade of nude. I wear it almost every day!
