Over the past year, I’m happy to say that I’ve finally started to finally figure out my beauty routine. I am by no means a makeup connoisseur. I didn’t start wearing any sort of makeup until I was a senior in high school, and that was very limited. Even now, I like to keep it simple, especially for summertime. Light, airy makeup is what I tend to reach for because my skin is sensitive to changes in weather, and we have a lot of that in South Carolina. So, if you’re looking for tried and true products for an easy but effective routine, the details are listed below. I apologize for the length of some of these details, but I never commit to makeup without extensively reading reviews and testing first. The products in my routine really work!
For Face: I use this cleanser before starting my routine.
I use a heavy cream moisturizer on my face because my skin needs it, but if you’re looking for something lightweight, Clinique Moisturizing Lotion is wonderful. // Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer if you’re looking for some extra color (plus it’s oil free!) // bareMinerals Original Foundation SPF15 goes on smooth and doesn’t seep into my skin like liquid foundation. // MAC Mineralize Charged Water for an extra surge of hydration after I’ve applied all of my makeup, plus I carry it in my purse if I need it during the day. I can’t rave about this enough for summer.
For Cheeks: MAC Mineralize blush for a warm color, I’ve used ‘Warm Soul’ for months and haven’t looked back // For a rosy color, Charlotte Tillsbury Beach Stick is long-lasting and has beautiful colors!
For Eyes: Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream blends nicely and holds well to makeup. // Revlon Color Stay eyeliner for under-eye // Dior ‘Addict-It Line’ liquid liner for a subtle cat-eye. // bareMinerals ‘Stroke of Light’ Eye Brightener doesn’t cake and does wonders for under-eye bags. Trust me, I’ve tried just about everything (mine are terrible) and this works. // Yves Saint Laurent ‘Touche Éclat’ Radiant Touch is the best highlighter I’ve used to date. I tried it as a sample from Nordstrom and immediately went out to buy it. I mainly use it for under-eye, but also use it under my eyebrows, above my top lip, and on both sides of my eyes. I instantly look more awake and my complexion appears brighter. // bareMinerals ‘The Posh Neutrals’ is my favorite neutral palette for every day, and also has a few dark colors if I want to glam it up a little for dinner or drinks. // Maybelline Mega Plush Mascara doesn’t clump and makes my eyelashes look super long! Obsessed with this.
For Lips: Normally I wear a neutral-pink shade but have been really drawn to oranges and light shades of red for summer. // Revlon Balm Stain ‘Honey’ and Lip Gloss ‘Super Natural’ for every day. This combination looks good on anyone, and you really can’t beat the price. I’ve tried all sort of products and have been the happiest with Revlon. It’s not sticky and lasts a long time! // bareMinerals ‘Pop of Passion’ Lip Oil Balm hits you with a 1-2 punch. Love the vibrant colors and the added moisture so it doesn’t cake. // I also love the reds and oranges from Yves Saint Laurent ‘Rouge Volupté’ Lipstick
As I said before, I’ve done the research, read the reviews, tested these products, and use them religiously! I can’t rave enough about them and suggest them for everyone!
* I’ve received a lot of questions about my complexion, and it’s really all about the daily routine. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, and stay away from processed food as much as possible. I use mild products to wash and moisturize my face. I drink A LOT of water and stay away from sugary drinks (except for the occasional coffee of course!) I limit sweets, and everything excessive in sugar. I make sure I wash my bed sheets and clean my phone case weekly. I’m diligent about cleaning my face with some sort of wipe (I like these) after the gym, pool, or beach to get rid of sweat and excess makeup. Really, it’s just about taking care of yourself and getting settled into a healthy routine!
